2.10.4  Manufacturer/retailer

The market volume of the Brazilian medical devices market is estimated at USD 10.41 billion in 2024, with a forecast average annual market growth rate of 6.7 % until 2029.179 The market for dental equipment is expected to grow by 9.15 % annually between 2024 and 2029 and the market for dental instruments by 5.8 %, with an expected market volume of USD 237.5 million in 2024.180

Brazil produces more than 40 % of its medical technology requirements domestically. The current government is aiming for a quota of 70 % in order to strengthen national independence and security of supply.181 There are a total of 4,921 medical technology companies in Brazil.182 In the dental sector, national companies are competing with large players that are entering the market with joint ventures and takeovers. German companies also operate their own production facilities in Brazil.183 Brazil has 955 manufacturers and distributors in the dental sector.184 Trading conditions are made more difficult by strong fluctuations in the exchange rate of the Brazilian real and the comprehensive tax reform of 2023.185 Nevertheless, Brazil offers an attractive market in which imports have significantly exceeded exports for years. Germany significantly increased its sales to Brazil in 2023 and, with a 15.2 % share of medical technology imports, overtook China (12.5 %). This makes Germany Brazil's second most important supplier country after the USA (18 %).186
