2.11.2 Dentists/Practices
In 2022, there were 67,700 dental practices in Japan, 1,240 fewer than in 2016. In contrast, the number of registered dentists has been rising for years – from 92,870 in 2002 to over 107,000 in 2020.197 Over 88 % of dentists work in practices, just under 9 % in university clinics and around 3 % in hospitals. Since 2006, the number of dental hygienists has risen sharply (from around 87,000 to over 142,000), while the number of dental technicians has leveled off at around 35,000 between 2006 and 2020. As of the end of January 2024, there are 66,888 dental facilities in Japan, including 49,443 practices run by dentists and 16,798 so-called ”medical corporations” (investor-managed care centers), which are comparable to German MVZs. In 2022, medical corporations active in dentistry achieved an average turnover of around 111 million yen (around USD 844,000), which was significantly higher than that of practices run by dentists in private practice (just over 47 million yen or USD 357,500). The largest expenditure in dental practices was on salaries (around 27.8 million yen or USD 211,500), followed by dental materials (5.5 million yen). In 2022, dentists earned an average annual income (including bonuses) of around 6.46 million yen (around USD 49,100), while the directors of dental clinics earned over 15.15 million yen (around USD 115,250) per year. Dental hygienists only earn around 2.53 million yen (around USD 19,300).198

Usage
If you enter a term in the search field at the top, only those publications that contain hits will be displayed. You can search for related terms by putting them in quotation marks (e.g. "Rebmann Research").
Once you have decided on a publication, the HIT-O-METER® shows all hits sorted by chapter. Hits are displayed by both quality (green) and quantity (blue).
In a second hit display to the right of the search field, hits in all other publications are displayed in a metasearch, which are available in GESUNDHEITSMARKT WISSEN. Once you are unlocked for these, you can jump back and forth between the content as you wish.
Thanks to the superimposed chapter and content structure, you always know where you are.
The display of text snippets makes it easier to quickly find the right thing and jump directly to the place where it was found. Once in the full text, you will always find the hit display sorted by chapter, so that you can then jump straight to the next interesting passage.
Use the arrows on the edge of the display to scroll forward and backward through the publication. You can also use the functionalities of your browser, to move around the websites or, for example, to set bookmarks.
