2.12.2  Dentists/Practices

In 2020, Egypt had 29,168 practicing dentists in the public healthcare sector.211 There were 1,398 dentists registered in the private sector in 2020 (+5.53 % since 2011).212 In 2011, there were 11,000 private dental practices in Egypt in addition to the state healthcare system, 4,500 of which were in the capital Cairo.213 The average annual salary for dentists in Egypt is the equivalent of USD 7,357. The hourly wage is USD 3.53 (as at September 2024).214

The ratio of dental graduates per 100,000 inhabitants in Egypt is 1.8. The dental degree program (Bachelor of Dental Surgery, BDS for short) in Egypt lasts a total of five years. Egypt has a recognized and accredited dental education system supported by experienced and highly qualified faculty. The modern facilities, including state-of-the-art dental clinics and equipment, allow students to gain hands-on experience with the latest dental technologies. In addition, tuition fees are more affordable compared to many Western countries, making Egypt an attractive option for quality dental education. Some dental schools offer programs in multiple languages, including English and Arabic. BDS degrees from Egypt are recognized worldwide.215
