2.6  Poland

With around 36.7 million inhabitants (as of 2023), Poland is the fifth largest country in the EU in terms of population.98 With a median age of 42.6 years, the population structure is relatively young compared to other EU countries.99 A forecast up to 2050 points to a significant decline in the population down to 33 million inhabitants, combined with an increase in the average age (primarily due to the low birth rate and emigration).100 Compared to Germany, both utilization and per capita expenditures for dental services are at a significantly lower level and the prevalence of dental disease is high  (see chapter Oral health). Healthcare expenditures attributable to dental practices have increased significantly in recent years – from € 1.06 million in 2020 to € 1.34 million in 2023 (+26.4 %).101 With modern facilities and well-trained specialists, Poland can guarantee high quality dental care and is therefore a popular destination for dental tourists.102
