3.3  Market consolidation

Creating synergies and improving efficiency through larger structures

The European dental market is growing steadily, driven by the increasing demand for dental services, the ageing population, medical progress and digitalization. A study by Fortune Business Insights from 2024 puts the average annual growth of the European dental market at 8.0 percentage points between 2022 and 2030.271 Demand for dental services is considered to be comparatively stable and less susceptible to economic fluctuations. This makes the dental sector an attractive market for financial investors (including private equity). On the other hand, the market is highly fragmented, with many small and medium-sized providers and strong regulation with major country-specific differences. Financial investors hope that the integration of established, well-equipped dental practices or dental laboratories into a practice or dental laboratory group will bring economic benefits (high returns, strong market position) and in particular, good sales proceeds for their laboratory or practice chain.272
